A security guard at Tesco Express on College Road, Harrow Town Centre, was reportedly head-butted and punched while trying to detain a shoplifter yesterday afternoon.
The suspect fled the scene on foot in the direction of Harrow-on-the-Hill train station. The store, located next to the station, was closed following the incident.
Comments posted on the Harrow Online Group on Facebook stated that a shoplifter “attacked the security very badly and ran away.”
A spokesperson for the Met Police told Harrow Online, “Just before 3.30pm on Tuesday, 7th January police were called to Tesco Express on College Road in Harrow, following a report of an assault on a member of staff at the location.
“Officers attended and found a male Security Guard with facial injuries, having been head-butted and then punched by a male who he had been trying to detain having witnessed him attempting to steal items from the store.
“The suspect, who was described as a black male in his mid-thirties, and approximately 6ft to 7ft tall, made off on foot in the direction of Harrow-on-the-Hill train station, prior to police arrival.
“An investigation has been started, but there have been no arrests.
