Man who glassed doorman ordered to pay £4,000 compensation

A man who glassed a doorman outside a bar will have to pay his victim £4,000.

Harry Lock left the victim “scarred for life” after the altercation in Worcester on February 25, 2022.

Appearing for sentencing at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday (October 27), the 23-year-old, of Ilkley Close, Warndon Villages, was handed a suspended sentence after Judge Jonathan Salmon told him he had “changed his ways” and got on with his life.

The court heard that Lock was involved in an incident outside a bar in Worcester, where he used a glass bottle to deliver “a number of short blows” to a member of the door staff working there.

After he was arrested, police found a small bag of cannabis, a mobile phone, and £220 in cash in his bag.

A victim impact statement from the door staff was read out to the court, where he shared how he had suffered facial scarring from the attack, which he would have for the rest of his life.

Lock admitted to being concerned in the supply of class B drugs in 2024 and pleaded guilty to wounding without intent on the first day of his trial in August.

Sentencing, Judge Jonathan Salmon said: “The man you glassed was a member of the door staff. He will never forget that day. Every time he brushes his teeth or looks in the mirror, he will see those scars.

“There is much good in you; you have changed your ways, and you have led a law-abiding life since.

“I have read what others have said about you. They speak positively. They struggle to understand how you could act in this way.”

Judge Salmon handed the 23-year-old a 13-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

He will also have to pay £4,000 to his victim in compensation, will have to complete 150 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months, and the drugs, phone, and money were seized.

Before releasing him from the court, Judge Salmon told Lock he was confident he would not see him in the dock again.
