A nightclub doorman has been warned he could be jailed for an attack on a reveller.

Thomas Young’s victim suffered a broken ankle and a head wound during the disturbance at Downtown in East Kilbride.

Young, 42, of Shotts, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted assaulting a man to his severe injury and impairment on December 16, 2023.

Two other doormen, Vince Spiewak, 32, of Bonnybridge, and Gary Bonini, 32, of East Kilbride, had their not guilty pleas to the charge accepted.

The court heard the victim threw a punch after being refused entry to the club. He was then shoved to the ground, restrained and kicked repeatedly on the head. CCTV footage of the assault was shown in court.

Sentence on Young was deferred until next month for background reports.

Sheriff John Speir told him: “This is a serious matter and the threshold for custody has certainly been crossed.

“I’ll continue bail but you should be prepared for all eventualities when you come back to court.”
