Rachel Cousins is accused of leaving the victim with a ‘puncture wound’ to her hand after whilst robbing steaks from Tesco Express
A woman has appeared in court accused of stabbing a security guard with a needles during a shop robbery in Newcastle. Rachel Cousins allegedly targeted Tesco Express, on Chillingham Road, Heaton, on July 26, and stole steaks.
Newcastle Magistrates’ Court heard that the 36-year-old was suspected of carrying an uncapped needle, which injured a member of staff. The female security officer suffered a puncture wound to her hands during the incident and needed hospital treatment and blood tests.
Cousins, of Westgate Road, in Newcastle, appeared in the dock in custody this week charged with one count of robbery. Jade Houston, prosecuting, said: “On July 26, it’s alleged the defendant went into Tesco on Chillingham Road and stole £60-worth of steaks.
“She allegedly had an uncapped needle, which was used as a weapon.” Because of the seriousness of the charge, no plea was taken from Cousins during the hearing.
Instead, she was remanded in custody to next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on August 25.
