A Swindon man has been sentenced after assaulting a doorman outside a nightclub.
Antony Kazik, 43, pleaded guilty to assaulting the staff member by beating him when he appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Tuesday, February 4.
The court heard how Kazik had headbutted and bitten him while he was working as a doorman at the time of the incident.
Ms Laura Thomas, prosecuting, told the court that Kazik, who lives in Upper Stratton, had been taken out of a Swindon nightclub by three doormen at some time between the late hours of October 12 to the early hours of October 13.
The victim then took over and informed Kazik he would not be allowed back in, with the other three doormen going back inside the nightclub.
Ms Thomas said that Kazik pushed him in the chest before being taken hold of and taken to the ground by the doorman.
Kazik “broke loose” and headbutted the victim, connecting with his right eye, and then bit him on the hand as the struggle ensued.
The victim was left with a black eye and “scabs on his hands” as a result of the assault.
In mitigation, Mr Hotson, defending, said that Mr Kazik was not a heavy drinker and it was very unusual for him to have consumed that level of alcohol.
Mr Hotson added that Kazik had acted out of character and was “very ashamed” of his actions, and had written letters to both the court and Mr Leonard expressing this.
Judge Dickins told Kazik: “People who work on the doors in clubs and bars put themselves at huge risk. They are not the highest-paid people and don’t have the same protection as emergency workers.
“It might not look like it but they are quite vulnerable and they do a very important job.
“There’s nothing I can say you probably haven’t told yourself. Your behaviour is quite appalling, what makes this serious is that you used your head as a weapon to cause what could have been a really nasty injury.”
Kazik was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months and pay £300 in compensation to the victim alongside £85 in costs.
