Man who assaulted Smyths Toys security guard admonished

A MAN who assaulted a security guard at a toy store when he was accused of stealing Lego has been admonished after he kept out of trouble for six months.

Kyle Ferrier was told to be of good behaviour by a sheriff after he pleaded guilty to striking employee Lukasz Guerlinski to the face at Smyths Toys at Kinnaird Park.

Ferrier had been suspected of shoplifting and had lashed out when the security officer challenged him and asked him to empty his rucksack on December 19, 2022.

Ferrier, of Florabank Road, Haddington, denied all the allegations of assault and theft against him but was found guilty of assault following a trial at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last September.

Sheriff Joseph Stewart acquitted Ferrier of stealing a Lego toy worth £19.99 and deferred sentence on the 20-year-old for six months on the assault charge to last week.

Ferrier returned to the Capital court on Tuesday, where Sheriff Stewart was told he had not come to the attention of the police since. He decided to admonish him.
