Man punched doorman who hit his friend then fled from police but fell over

A man attacked a doorman who had punched his friend after they had been out drinking in Leicester city centre. Timar Facey was captured on CCTV lunging at the doorman before fleeing, but fell over moments later.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, April 12 when Facey was seen on CCTV attacking the doorman outside the bar in Leicester’s King Street. He then ran off as police officers arrived, with police giving chase. During the pursuit, 27-year-old Facey fell over and was arrested.

CCTV of the incident was played out at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (May 1) to District Judge Rahim Allen-Khimini. Prosecutor Tracy Lovejoy told the judge that the case was made more serious because “it did escalate into violence”.

Mike Diez, representing Facey, of Pollard Road, Braunstone, Leicester, said: “It was a rare night out for him. He’s not a regular drinker.

“What can be seen [in the CCTV footage] is the doorman comes and punches Mr Facey’s friend. He thought it was unnecessary and excessive.”

He said his client then went to complain to the doorman about what he had just done and received an “abusive response” from him. He then lunged towards him.

Mr Diez pointed out that the police officers involved had not taken action against the doorman. He said: “I’m surprised Mr Facey is the only person in court today.”

He said that while Facey, who works as a decorator, did have a criminal record, the latest offence was a driving incident from five years ago.

District Judge Rahim Allen-Khimini told Facey: “I’ve seen the footage. You know what you’ve done wrong. Perhaps running away from the police wasn’t the wisest decision. And then you fell over. But you haven’t got any relevant previous convictions.”

Facey, who pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour, was given a 12-month community order with 60 hours of unpaid work. He also ordered him to pay a £114 victim surcharge.
