A person has been injured during an incident that sparked a late-night 999 response in Bishop Auckland.
Newgate Street was taped off last night and remains taped off today (June 29) following a reported incident between two members of the public and a member of staff from the Tap and Tun pub at around 9.30pm.
In a statement issued on social media, the pub confirmed that one of their door staff was involved and that they had received medical treatment.
North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed that they had been called to the scene, where they treated one patient at the scene.
A full statement issued by NEAS said: “We were called to an incident on Newgate Street in Bishop Auckland last night (28 June) at 21:30.
“We dispatched one ambulance crew and one clinical team leader to the incident. One patient was treated at the scene but refused hospital treatment.”
A spokesperson for the Tap and Tun said: “During an incident between two members of the public outside our venue last night, one of our door team was injured and received medical treatment.
“The safety of our Operator and staff is of utmost importance and we take acts of violence against them incredibly seriously. We are supporting our team following the incident.
“We continue to aid the police in their ongoing enquiries and the venue will remain closed today.”
Police remain outside the venue today with a smaller cordon still in place.
