Creamfields security guard dies in hospital weeks after suffering serious head injury at festival

Michael, also known as Bruno, died after spending 18 days at a specialist medical unit following the incident.

A festival security guard who suffered a head injury while clearing up the site has died in hospital weeks after the incident. The man was airlifted to hospital from Creamfields in Daresbury, Halton, on Monday, August 28.

At the time of the incident, Cheshire Police said he was in a serious condition in hospital and that the force had launched a probe into the circumstances behind his injuries, the Liverpool ECHO reports.

The security guard’s family have now confirmed he tragically passed away at 5am on Friday, September 15, after spending 18 days fighting for his life at a specialist medical unit. They have confirmed he was named Michael, and often known by his nickname, Bruno.

In a statement shared to a Creamfields community group on social media, one relative wrote: “As a family, we regret to inform you that Michael AKA Bruno (security guard) passed away at 5am this morning (September 15) following a tragic set of unfortunate circumstances.

GoFundMe page set up by the family has so far raised more than £2,250 for the centre where he was treated in his final days. A message on the page reads: “Michael aka Bruno unfortunately sustained a serious head injury whilst working at Creamfields on August 28.

“He was airlifted to hospital and subsequently transferred to the Walton Centre where he received round the clock treatment for 18 days. Unfortunately, at 5am on September 15, he passed away.

“In light of the heroic efforts to save Bruno, we the family feel it only right to donate all proceeds to the specialist unit that cared so tirelessly for him. We hope by donating that this small gesture may go some way to saving someone’s life in the future.

Following the sad news, tributes flooded in for Michael, who was described as a “kind person with a huge heart”. One wrote: “I have known Michael and his wife for over 20 years. My deepest love and support goes out to Bruno’s wife and son. R.I.P.xxxx”

Another woman said: “So sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of knowing your brother and doing his classes at JD Gyms – Newcastle-under-Lyme and previously at x4l. He was one of the best people, a good, kind person with a huge heart and personality. He will be missed by everyone. Thinking of you & your family.
