West Bromwich robber jailed for assaulting security guard

A robber who assaulted a security guard and a police officer has been jailed.

On 19 January, Lee Egege, aged 39 stole various items from a store on Reservoir Road, West Bromwich.

On 26 January he then stole items from a store on Astle Park. Egege went to the till, allowed the shop worker to scan the items, and then placed them in a bag and attempted to run out of the store.

A security guard intervened but was punched in the face by Egege.

He was then detained until officers arrived.

Following his arrest, the 39-year-old also spat at one of our officers.

Thanks to good quality CCTV footage in both stores, Egege of no fixed address was charged with two counts of shop theft, common assault and assaulting a constable.

He appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court and was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison.
