Security guards have been brought in at a Dundee library to protect staff after a spate of anti-social behaviour incidents.
Security staff wearing high-vis jackets have been guarding the front entrance to Coldside Library on Strathmartine Road.
Operator Leisure and Culture Dundee (LACD) confirmed there had been “a number of incidents” at the building in recent days, prompting the arrival of security staff.
The matter has also been reported to police.
Specific details of the incidents have not been revealed, and workers at the library have declined to comment.
Coldside councillor George McIrvine says staff and library users should not have to put up with crime.
He said: “It is right that staff and the public who use Coldside Library are protected from any crime or disorder, whether verbal or physical abuse.
“The need for a zero-tolerance approach is a priority to ensure a safe environment for all.
“I have approached the head of leisure and culture for information regarding this.
“I assume the current security arrangements are temporary until Police Scotland addresses the concerns.”
A spokesman for Leisure and Culture Dundee said: “We have recently experienced a number of incidents involving anti-social behaviour at Coldside Library.
“The safety and wellbeing of our colleagues is a top priority, and as a result, we have introduced short-term measures to ensure they feel safe and supported at work.
“As these incidents are now a matter for Police Scotland, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.”
Police Scotland said it needed details of specific incidents to provide comment.
