Reggae-themed fundraiser to be held in memory of Weston’s best doorman

A FUNDRAISER is being held to raise money to pay for the funeral of “Weston’s best doorman”.

Steve Gallagher was a much-loved figure in the coastal town. He had built up his career through acting as doorman for Weston and Clevedon businesses. He had a wife and young child.

On Tuesday, September 12, Steve unexpectedly passed away.

The Go Fund Me page created in Steve’s memory reads: “He was a big guy with an even bigger heart.

“Steve wasn’t someone you’d want to mess with on a night out due to his sheer size but he would do anything to keep you safe. Gentle Giant being another name by which he was affectionately known, so kind and caring, Steve would help anyone if he could.

“Steve was a big fan of Superman, Marvel, Star Trek and a Liverpool supporter through and through. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

“12 years ago Steve met Tasha and they fell deeply in love. They had Connor in 2014 and became a proper little family.

“In 2017 they decided to get married but before the preparations even began, Steve became seriously ill and ended up in hospital. He pulled through and returned home after over five weeks of intense treatment.

“Diagnosed with heart failure, Steve was forced to retire from the job he loved and was registered disabled.

“Steve and Tash married just three months later in a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony.

“And now he is gone.”

On Friday, October 6, a Super Reggae Night will be held at the Allstars Sports Lounge on Regent Street, from 7pm until late.

DJ Jay Zee will take to the stage, whilst attendees try their luck in a raffle. Any donations for raffle prizes would be greatly appreciated.

Posting on Facebook, Jay Zee said: “Most of us knew Steve, let’s do this for him and help the family out. If not you missed out on a great person. Everyone welcome.
