A 31-year-old man who assaulted three police officers and a bouncer who intervened after he pushed his wife outside a Suffolk nightclub has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Grant Kehoe later told police he’d been using steroids for a year before the assaults and had lost his temper after drinking two bottles of wine and half a bottle of rum on the night in question, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
Kehoe of Churchill Road, Thetford, admitted three offences of assaulting police officers in the execution of their duty, an offence of assault by beating and an offence of assault causing actual bodily harm. The offences took place on March 5 this year.
He was given a 40 week prison sentence suspended for 24 months, 180 hours unpaid work, a 40 day rehabilitation activity requirement, a 120 day alcohol abstinence monitoring requirement and ordered to pay £800 compensation.
The court heard he had been acting aggressively outside Verve nightclub in Bury St Edmunds and had pushed his wife.
A bouncer and other officers intervened and Kehoe had headbutted the bouncer, causing a cut to his lip. He had also hit two police officers in the face and elbowed another in the neck before being sprayed with an incapacitant.
Edward Renvoize for Kehoe said his client was remorseful.
