Man threatened to ‘punch security guard’s freckles off’ during fracas in Aberdeen shopping centre

An Aberdeen man threatened to hit a security guard so hard “his freckles would fall off” during a row in a shopping centre.

Gareth Sands also warned a staff member at Union Square that he would break their nose as they escorted him from the premises on Saturday morning.

Later that day, Sands pushed and kicked a man at the city’s bus station, and tried to attack a police officer.

The 37-year-old appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday where he admitted to the assaults and acting in a threatening or abusive manner in the centre.

Fiscal depute John Richardson said: “He made threats and allegations such as ‘if you put your hands on me again I will break your nose’ and that he would hit a man so hard his freckles would fall off.”

Shortly after, Sands was seen “repeatedly” pushing a man before kicking him on the leg at the adjoining bus station.

And after being picked up by police, he kicked backwards at an officer standing behind him then tried to headbutt and bite him.

Sands also admitted stealing sunglasses worth £19.99 from the WH Smith outlet at Aberdeen Railway Station on September 12.

Sheriff Janys Scott QC said his trail of offending was “getting too much.”

Sentence was deferred on Sands, of West North Street, until January to allow for social work reports to be compiled.
