Drink driver left Plymouth club and collided with doorman

A suspected drink driver was sniffed out of a flat in Plymouth by a police dog. Devon and Cornwall Police officers were called after a drink driver left a nightclub and crashed with a doorman in the city.

The suspect’s car was found ditched and officers launched a manhunt to find him. Police Dog Finni led the chase, tracking down the suspect from the car, along a street and into a basement flat.

Although officers were not sure which flat he had fled into, Finni was able to lead them directly to the right door. They found a male matching the description of the drink driver and the keys for the dumped car inside.

Devon Police Dogs said in a post on X: “PD Finni assisted officers after a drink driver left a club and collided with a doorman. The car was located unattended in the city with no known address for the driver.

“Finni tracked from the car, along a street, down some steps into a basement flat where the driver was located.”

Inspector Roger Hocking confirmed on X that the suspect had been convicted of three offences – Drive a motor vehicle with excess alcohol, fail to stop after an accident, drive otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Inspector Hocking added: “A huge pat on the back for PD Finni. We located the suspect’s car but didn’t know which of many flats the driver had gone into.

“Finni soon led us to the right door. Inside was a male matching the description of the driver and the car keys.”
