Doorman ducked punch after drunk pushed colleague at Inverness nightspot

Doormen at a popular Inverness nightspot refused to allow a Kirkcaldy man entry because he was too drunk and had an open container of alcohol in his hand.

But Inverness Sheriff Court was told that 40-year-old John Hoggan, of Valley Gardens South, pushed his way past the staff and progressed down the steps towards the front door of Johnny Foxes.

He was later arrested after assaulting one of the stewards and then bit a policeman on the leg as he was being carried into a cell.

Fiscal depute Victoria Silver told Sheriff Gary Aitken that after pushing his way into the premises, he was quickly ushered out and back up the steps of the nightspot at about 1.30am on December 1 last year. He then thrust one of the staff into a fence and both stewards took a hold of him.

“The accused lunged towards one of them and threw a punch,” she said. “But the steward ducked. Police arrived shortly afterwards.

“He was taken to Burnett Road Police Station and was taken immediately to a cell because of his unruly behaviour.

“He kicked out and struck one officer on the leg. He was out in the prone position and was being carried towards the cell but during this he bit one officer, causing bruising and leaving teeth marks.”
