Asda security guard dies outside Scots supermarket following ‘bust-up with woman’

A SECURITY guard has died after an alleged bust-up with a woman at an Asda store.

The 61-year-old was pronounced dead on Sunday night shortly after mercy crews were summoned to Asda in Arbroath, Angus.

The stricken man lost consciousness at the store in the town’s Westway Retail Park at around 7.25pm.

A 37-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with an assault.

Ambulance crews and cops raced to the busy retailer after the alarm was raised by worried colleagues and customers.

Images taken from the car park of the store show a heavy police presence as a probe into the tragedy was launched.

Medical teams tried to resuscitate the man but tragically he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A local source said: “Asda is one of the busiest supermarkets in the town but there is hardly ever any bother so this was shocking to see.

“But it was obviously something serious because all of a sudden there were three ambulances and umpteen police cars outside the store.

“The poor guy collapsed and ambulance crews were working on him for quite a while but he didn’t make it.

“It’s so sad to think someone goes to their work and doesn’t come back.

“It must have been distressing for staff and customers and everyone is thinking about the poor man’s family.”

Police last night revealed the man’s passing was unexplained pending a post mortem examination.

An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing and a 37-year-old woman has been charged with assault.

She is due to appear at Forfar Sheriff later today (Tuesday).

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.25pm on Sunday, 30 June, 2024, we were called to a report of an unresponsive man within a supermarket in Westway Retail Park, Arbroath.

“Emergency services attended and a 62-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is being treated as unexplained at this time and a post mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

“A 37-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault. She is due to appear at Forfar Sheriff Court on Tuesday.”

A spokesman for Asda declined to comment.
