A racist thug in Leeds has been jailed after subjecting a security guard and a police officer in Leeds to “truly foul abuse.”
Antony Caton, 57, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court today after pleading guilty to a number of offences, including two counts of racially aggravated harassment.
Prosecutor Miah Nath told the court how on December 17, 2025, the defendant attended a Morrisons store in Rothwell but was told to leave as he was barred from the shop.
He later returned and subjected the security guard to a “tirade of racial abuse.”
Caton was arrested at his home on Christmas Day and racially abused the arresting officer, of Polish descent, telling him that he hopes “Putin invades” and “blows you up.”
The defendant, who has 15 convictions from previous 27 offences, was previously handed a suspended sentence in August 2025 after he was arrested for “threatening staff” at a private hire firm.
The court heard how while in custody at Elland Road Police Station for this offence, the defendant, of no fixed abode, smeared his own faeces in his cell before telling officers he was suffering from chest pains.
He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where he was racially abusive to staff and bit an officer, Ms Nath told the court.
In a victim impact statement, the arresting officer said he was left “alarmed and distressed” by the incident, and that no one deserves to be the victim of or witness racial abuse.
During mitigation, defence counsel Mark Foley explained that his client was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2011 and wasn’t taking his medication at the time of the incidents.
Currently on remand at HMP Hull, Mr Foley added that Caton was remorseful for his actions and “recognises his behaviour is not acceptable and awful,” and was doing “far far better” now that he had began taking his medication.
The court heard from a Dr Quinn who detailed how the defendant’s condition meant it was “unlikely he was inciteful” but conceded that it “doesn’t explain” all of his offending behaviour.
Passing sentence, Judge Neil Clark described the language used by the 57-year-old as “foul and truly offensive” racist remarks.
He noted on the record that Caton’s “unpleasant beliefs” remained a concern for prison staff at HMP Hull and that his behaviour in custody “has not been good.”
Caton was sentenced to a total of 12 months in prison. He received no further penalty for offences of theft and possession of a Class A drug.
