A man has been charged after trying to enter a Preston city centre pub armed with a knife.
Police were called to the Bears Paw in Church Street after doormen detained a man in possession of a ‘large knife’ at around 9pm on Sunday (August 2).
The pub said “the situation was dealt with immediately” and the door team ‘intercepted’ the weapon before the man entered the premises. No one was harmed in the incident.
Mihai Gizga, 42, of St George’s Road, Preston, has been charged with possession of a knife blade/sharp-pointed article in a public place.
He has been released on bail with conditions to appear at Preston Magistrates Court on August 19.
Management at the Bears Paw said: “Our exceptional door team intercepted a large knife before it could enter our premises.
“Thanks to their professionalism, vigilance and quick actions, the situation was dealt with immediately, ensuring the safety of our customers and staff.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to our doormen for the outstanding job they did this evening. Their actions prevented what could have been a very serious incident.
“Anyone found carrying a weapon or behaving in a threatening manner will be refused entry, removed from the premises and reported to the police.
“The Bears Paw is a pub where people come to relax, enjoy themselves and feel safe. We intend to keep it that way.”
