A FORMER doorman attacked a pubgoer who was ejected from an Ayr bar, after a court heard he threw a glass at a woman and allegedly made a threat to rape her.
Daniel Mack pleaded guilty to a charge of assault to injury and permanent disfigurement when he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on Wednesday, May 20.
The 37-year-old admitted to assaulting the man during an incident in River Street, repeatedly punching him on the head, causing him to fall to the ground on March 17, 2025.
He pleaded guilty under deletion of the words “and headbutted him to the head” from the charge.
The procurator fiscal depute said: “The locus was the Black Bull pub. At 10.50pm the complainer was in the pub and the accused. They were not together but were observed several times interacting.
“The bar manager ejected the complainer.
“The accused followed, then punched him, causing him to fall to the ground.”
The assault victim had a split lip after the attack, and the bar manager contacted police.
Mack was arrested and admitted the offence to officers.
He told them: “It was my fault, I’m sorry, but I’ll tell you why, he was being a d**k.
“I’ll be honest, I did do it, he was being really weird with women and I wasn’t having it.”
He added that he used to work on the doors at the pub.
Defence solicitor Terry Gallanagh said: “Ordinarily I would reserve comments [until after reports] but it is important to place on record he had been out earlier and was returning back to a place where he was known and worked.
“While there, the complainer conducted himself in a threatening and abusive manner.
“On more than one occasion, he [Mack] took himself away from the complainer. On one occasion, a gentleman whom the accused was with bought him [the complainer] a pint to make him go away.
“The complainer was ejected after complaints from other members of the public, particularly two women. He poured a pint over a woman, and Mr Mack saw him throw a glass at a woman.
“The complainer made a vile threat to rape the woman. That statement sparked ire and the accused went out and confronted him.”
The prosecutor told the court that his client “puts this down to inebriation”, as he is “the father of girls”.
The fiscal depute said the Crown had no information on the alleged rape threat, but confirmed a glass being thrown.
“He absolutely accepts he was wrong and was immediately candid with the police,” the prosecutor added.
Sheriff Michael Meehan deferred sentencing for criminal justice social work reports.
Bail was continued for Mack, of Craigie Way, and he will face sentencing at a later date.
He will face the charge again at a later date.
