Tributes have been paid to a “legendary” bouncer at Glasgow’s The Garage nightclub after his “sudden” death. Jaz Majid, who was a steward at the Sauchiehall Street club for over 12 years, has been remembered as “one of the friendliest, most courteous, affable and lovable people you could ever care to meet”.
Former friends, colleagues and club-goers have shared their condolences with Jaz’s family in a series of touching tributes on Facebook.
The Garage boss Donald Macleod wrote: “Really saddened, gutted would be closer to the truth, to hear of the sudden death of Jaz Majid.
“Legendary The Garage steward for past 12 + years. He was one of the friendliest, most courteous, affable and indeed lovable people you could ever care to meet.
“A giant of a man with one of the biggest hearts, a tragic loss to all those who knew or worked with him.
“My deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy goes to Jaz’s family, friends, workmates, clubbers and all who grieve his passing.”
Former Garage DJ Craig Guild said in the post’s comments: “I’m gutted to hear this news. I held a DJ residency at the Garage for about 20 years. Jaz was a legend inside the club and out.
“Never a bad word to say about anyone, always cheered me up when I was down. Always had nice things to say about everyone and everything. A one of a kind absolute king of a man. A true loss to all that knew him. RIP my friend.”
Another former colleague wrote: “Gutted to hear this I worked on the door at the Arches with Jaz in the early 00’s, such a great big guy. RIP Jaz Majid.”
Some clubbers and friends made their own posts remembering the “gentle giant”, with one saying: “The kindest soul to have walked this earth.
“You were a good friend and the kindest and funniest person I’ve ever had the privilege meet all those years ago when I was 18 years old, you always had my back in a time of need and I’m so glad I had the privilege to call you a friend.
“You will be missed dearly Jaz Majid! You were too good for this world.”
Another wrote: “Actual so gutted to hear that you’ve gone big man. Absolute legend, never fail to put a smile on my face when I came into see you at your work… always made my night out a lot happier, joked around with us during it.
“RIP Big man, my condolences are with your family, Gone but not forgotten, you’ll be sadly missed my friend.”
