Stan’s tragic death in Milton Keynes could spark safety improvements for security officers all over the UK

The death of the city’s much-loved security guard Gary Stanley is set to spark safety improvements for similar workers all over the UK.

More than 22,000 people have signed a petition on Change.org calling for the government and industry leaders to introduce more protective measures all security officers.

And it has already prompted Emily Darlington, MP for Milton Keynes Central, to vow to set up a meeting with the Security Industry Federation, which has already stated it is keep to help prevent any more deaths or injuries.

The petition (view it here) was launched after centre: mk security man Gary Stanley, known to all as Stan, died from a stab wound at the shopping centre on February 28.

Started by a local resident called Sarah, it asks for new legislation calls ‘Stan’s Law’ to be drawn up.

It states: “These individuals work tirelessly to ensure our safety and deserve to be equipped with the tools and training necessary to protect themselves. “Many security officers are currently unarmed, making them vulnerable to violence on the job.

The incident involving Stan has exposed a critical gap in the protective measures available to security officers.

To prevent future tragedies and to honour Stan’s legacy, it is imperative that we take immediate action to enhance their safety.” The petition proposes it should be Stan’s Law to equip all security officers in high-risk areas with approved protective measures such as tasers, pepper spray, and batons.

And it suggests that implement mandatory training programmes should be set up to ensure proper use of these protective measures and adherence to safety protocols.

“By enacting ‘Stan’s Law,’ we can make a significant impact in safeguarding our security personnel, who selflessly protect us every day. This proposal is not only a tribute to Stan but a necessary step toward protecting all security officers and ensuring that they can return home safely to their families,” it states.
