CCTV appeal after ‘security guard attacked’ and ‘mass disorder’ outside nightclub

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after troubled erupted outside a nightclub. Officers say a security guard was attacked close to Casa in Stafford in the early hours of Sunday, October 19.

The incident then sparked mass disorder in Bridge Street and the suspect was also reportedly assaulted. Now Staffordshire Police are asking for anyone who recognises the man captured on security cameras to come forward. They believe he may hold the key to solving the crime.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We’re appealing for information following an assault outside Casa in Stafford. It happened in the early hours of Sunday, October 19. It was reported that a man assaulted a security guard, resulting in disorder, at about 2.25am.

“The suspect was also assaulted during the incident. Officers have been speaking to staff who were working that night and reviewing CCTV footage as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident. We’re also aware of footage circulating on social media which shows a part of the incident taking place.

“We’re now releasing an image of a man we’d like to talk to in connection with the investigation. We’re keen to speak to any witnesses or those with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time.”

The news comes after it was ruled Casa could keep its licence following a review by Stafford Borough Council.

A Casa spokesman said at the time: “We’ve been working extremely hard behind the scenes. This includes bringing in a brand new front of house security company and installing the latest security technology to create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for our guests and staff. After 18 years of service and over two million guests, we want to reassure everyone that we are taking every step to ensure your nights at Casa remain enjoyable, inclusive and safe.”

Councillor Brendan McKeown, who chaired the panel, said: “It is disappointing that it became necessary for a long-standing establishment to be brought in for review. However, the sub-committee acknowledges there have been changes within the premises since the application for review to address the clear and repeated failures.

“Having considered all the information, the licensing committee has decided the premises licence shall remain and that additional conditions will be added to the licence. Any failure to adhere to the licence conditions could result in further review and a different decision could be reached.

“The sub-committee suggest a review of the positioning of the external front door camera. A review should be conducted due to the door glazing obstructing the camera image.”
