Personal Safety Training for Security Staff

Postby KeithB » 09 Feb 2012, 11:26

Hi All,

As you are all probaly aware, I specialise in the physical skills and personal safety training for security staff. I run both Btec and customised courses, however I am not trying to force people to attend these courses (along with Para I believe employers should provide suitable training), but trying to design a course for front line staff that is:

A) Reasonably Priced
B) Effective in real situations (this would include dynamic training scenarios)

Obviously the Btec courses are available however due to alot of staff working for theirselves, they have to pay out of their own pocket, so I am trying to offer an alternative that complies with UK Law and Legislation in regards to Use of Force, and offers certification from myself. Now obviously Accreditation is great, however Reasonable Force is Reasonable Force, the aim of the course is to provide staff with a full legal briefing on the Use of Force, as well as the risks surrounding restraint, so they can justify their actions in a Court of Law.

I am toying with running a 1 day course that combines the National Federation for Personal Safety Physical Restraint Techniques, as well as elements from Tony Blauer's PDR / S.P.E.A.R. System. I am also looking at running a 2 day course that goes more in depth and allows staff to take part in more scenario training.

Now getting this type of course accredited on Qualifications Framework, will probaly not happen, so funding wont either, however as said before I am not looking to charge the earth for these courses, and the main focus is to give staff the knowledge and skills required to deal with high risk scenarios (which the SIA PI Module fails to do) whilst complying with the Law.

Nothing is finalised yet but I am looking at running the 1 Day Course at £45 per person (WTD Members) and the 2 day course at £90 per person (WTD Members)

Would you guys and girls from WTD be interested in attending? do you think it is a course worth doing? I will only move forward with this, with input from the forum members.

Thanks all

£90 for a two day course. I would certainly pay that.

I think it would be well worth it to show I have a understanding in the matters concerned
