Pub doorman assaulted in Charlestown after police attend to control large group of drunk teens

A pub doorman has been assaulted following an incident in Charlestown. Devon and Cornwall Police officers attended the village late on Saturday evening (April 15) following reports of a number of drunk teens causing disruption.

It is believed that a group of about 20 to 30 young people had gathered at Charlestown Park before moving onto Quay Road on the harbour.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police were called on Saturday evening (14 April) with reports of a large group of youths causing a disturbance on Charlestown Park, which later moved on to Quay Road, St Austell.

“Units attended to calm the situation and found in the region of 20-30 teenagers, some under the influence of alcohol causing a scene; one person was removed by officers.

“Following on from this, police received a report of a doorman having been assaulted during this incident. Police enquiries are underway into this matter.”

A number of local residents reported hearing the disturbance at Charlestown, which was made famous in BBC1’s Poldark.

The Rashleigh Arms in Charlestown was contacted for a statement about the incident but declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation.
